Nike's House of innovation



Nike’s new house of innovation in Shanghai is THE place for every shoe or Nike addict in the world. It is the very first time that Nike has build and created such a unique concept store. The house of innovation is a unique place which has four levels, 41,150 square feet and is located in the world-famous East Road shopping district. 



The house of innovation will also present the latest Nike products such as: the LeBron 16, Air Jordan 33 and Pegasus Turbo styles. At the first floor, shoppers will find key styles and installations. At the digitally-enabled “Center Court" customers can enjoy speaker sessions, workshops and digitally-led trialing sessions





On the top floor Nike Expert Studio gives NikePlus members unrivaled access to gear up, get styled and get matched with exclusive and personalized product picks in private sessions with Nike Shanghai’s most highly-trained store athletes.

In addition, NikePlus members can have one-on-one sessions with a designer to customize select shoes — adding dip-dye, embroidery and more — and walk away with freshly designed footwear.

The interesting part is that why did Nike, as an American sports brand, choose Shanghai as a location for the first Nike House of Innovation? Personally I would have located this store in the home country America in Portland, Oregon (near the headquarter).

  1. I think Nike has succeeded with this new installation where only sneakers are sold, because more and more the sneakers market in streetwear does not stop growing. Either for people who like the shoe market or see it as a business.
    As far as the location of the store in the Chinese market is concerned, it could be because in that city there is a great demand for shoes or because Shanghai has the best merchandise port. On the other hand, it surprises me, since there are large markets for counterfeit clothing and shoes.

    I sincerely believe that the Nike brand wanted to penetrate the Chinese market, as China is one of the world's powers. And Shanghai is the most developed city in China and the best business city in the country. I have had the opportunity to be in that city and I can corroborate it.

    1. I agree with you that I also believe that Nike wants to penetrate the Chinese martket. However it is an American brand so I still believe that Nike should build something similiar like this in the USA.

  3. After being in Shanghai last June I know why Nike has installed its House of innovations in China. Chinese people are really into European and American brands, they love our outfits so they also love our brands too. For example, the Spanish brand "Zara" has also been focused on the Chinese market, since it is the second country in which Zara sells more products. Also, Shanghai its an international city with 25 million of inhabitans, while Portland its an small city and not so international.

    The idea of Nike's House of innovation seems brilliant to me, because it is a place where you can solve your doubts when buying running shoes or any other sport, with the help of experienced specialists in the subject of sneakers.
    Referring to the question, in my opinion I think Nike decided to put the first House of Innovation in Shanghai because the Chinese society is very interested in sports fashion and the Nike brand.

Nike is a well-known sport brand all over the world, and I agree with some previous comments that the Chinese people is really interested in European or American brands, so nike mangers thought that creating this store in Shanghai could help them to penetrate the Chinese market and enlarging their target public.
    Apart from that I could agree in some terms about why they didn't create this innovative store in the states, but I can think that it was because in the states everyone knows this brand and how they manage its products, but opening a similar store in USA could have created a great impact, I propose New York City as the city holding the store.

    I believe that the implementation of the nike house of innovation, is a project that will benefit positively to the company and that in this store you can find everything you want related to nike, its new products and you can also solve any doubt that you have with its experienced employees, another point that adds value to the nike house of innovation is the place where you can customize your shoes as you want, as this is usually done through the web of nike.
    I think it is located in Shanghai to make the brand better known and because it is a place where there are many people and tourists.

  7. Located in Shanghai is not a bad idea. First, Shanghai is a national city that has tons of tourists pass by everyday. Second, China is a big market, it's a country with most populations in the world. Besides, economy grows really fast in China. The youth in China are crazy about fashion. They want something NEW. For example, once Apple has new product, no matter how expensive it is, you still can see a long queue in front of the Apple Store. In addition, the youth not only wants something new but it's also unique. Customize it exactly what they want. By doing so, they can show up in front of their peers, which means they are really willing to spend a lot of money on it.

  8. Mathias MARI : I think its due to the fact that the culture around fashion and technology in China is different. People there seem to be more fanatic fans of the brands in fashion and or players in sports. On the other hand i think that this kind of facility could appear somewhere on the map of USA in the near future.

Sponsorships To build an imperium and be the market leader like NIKE, the organization must have a good marketing department and strategy.   "No company in the world spends as much money on sports sponsorships as Nike”  (Isidore, 2015) The endorsement of NIKE is one of the key elements to build a brand like this. The organization has a lot of big sport athletes to promote the brand like: 1.        Cristiano Ronaldo ( See a commerial at the end) 2.        Lebron James 3.        Tiger Woods 4.        Serena Williams 5.        Michael Jordan Nike is using professional athletes and celebrities   to promote their   products. The influence from the athletes and celebrities could influence new customers. Especially really big fans of the athletes would like to have a product from their idol. Some athletes have even their own line like Lebron James. The revenues from the products is higher than the cost of the sponsorship and therefore the organization spends

How did NIKE became so successful? - The start

NIKE: Just Do It , is a sentence that a lot of people know nowadays. When people here the sentence only one brand is coming op: NIKE. The brand is the market leader in their market, but how did the company become so successful and what do people think from the brand. In this blog, I will explain the beginning of Nike. The start of NIKE Phil Knight is the man who came up with the idea for the company. He was a very sportive man, but he didn’t like the American sport shoes. The shoes were painful during long runs and he wanted to create a brand with better quality of shoes. During his trip in Japan, he visited a factory and made a contract deal to deliver the shoes in America. The name of the brand wasn’t until 1971 NIKE. From 1964 until 1971 the brand operates under the name : Blue Ribbon sport. In the beginning it was hard for the organization to promote the shoes, but in 1960 ( five years after the first production) the organization revenues where over the 1 million dollars
