The controversial deal of Nike

Believe in something. Even if means sacrificing everything.

Approximately two years ago, an observant reporter asked Colin Kaepernick. If it was a coincide that he hadn’t been standing up the last two games while the national anthem was playing. He surprised the report by saying he wasn’t gone stand up for the flag of a country where black people are being oppressed. The words of Colin went viral in America even the president Donald Trump got involved, he was mainly active on Twitter.

Colin Kaepernick recently revealed an sponsorship with Nike, of being one of the faces of the 30 year campaign of ‘just do it’, This was truly an controversial deal. It’s a bald an rebel move of Nike, on the other hand Nike is famous for rebel behaviour, they stood by Tiger Woods after everything he was going through. What makes the deal even more special is that Colin has been without an club for a year and half.

Nike shares dropped by 2% after the announcement, people burned their Nike sneakers, cutting out the logo of clothes or threating to boycott the brand. It was all over social media and a lot of people were talking about it. Famous athletes or singers got involved and all had something to say about the move of Nike.

I personally think is an real good move of Nike to sigh Colin,
to support him in is fight to stop the oppressing of black people and the police violence against them. In a time where
team’s won’t sign him and he really needs all the support he can get. The campaign did work because the online sales of Nike grew by 31%

What do you think about this controversial deal, did Nike take the right decision ?

  2. Just do it

The slogan coincides fully with the feeling of Colin Kaepernick and will be a total success. Nike will surely revalue its actions and all comments against Nike will be easily forgotten.
If I were you I would buy Nike shares.

    1. Indeed as you said they just followed their slogan and thought ' just do it'
I agree, that within a short time al lot of people will give Nike credits for this deal they made, and the Nike shares will increase over time.

  3. In my opinion, Nike took the right decision. Nike is stronger than Donald Trump and Trump's inpopularity boost Nike's sale particulary in left's states. Furthermore, this campaign represents values of Nike. This campaign give a good image of Nike.

  4. Jordi: Nike took the right decision. This campaign is going to bloster Nike in all terms, as Xavier said before, "Just do it", and that is what they did.
The bad comments are going to be forgotten easily so they don't have to worry about the consumer opinion because of that decision.

I agree with the comments above that Nike made the right decision and that the values of Nike are in priority as it is one off the main things for a company to always be true to there values and have clear values so yes Nike definately made the right decision

I think Nike took the right decision. Nike has build up strong brand image, so I don’t think that the decision will affect their image.

  7. I think that Nike made the right decision and a very significant one. As nike is the main brand in the NFL, they make all the merchandise and equipment for all the teams, this decision was a very important one, because with all this we can see that the sponsors, which are a basic actor in the business of sports, are with Colin Kapearnick ideas and the fact that the rules that the goverment imposes aren't correct always.

  8. I think Nike do the right thing. They just fo what they emphasize "Just do it". Although its shares drop, it won't last long. Nike is too huge that even a twitter of a president in the US can't affect it in long term. People will remember that Nike means high quality and fashion sports brand but not its controversial deal.

  9. Good move from NIKE, both business and conscience wise. The company of course did it to increase their sales but it's a nice touch for the community to know that some giants like the sportswear brand, can do something "controversial" because they feel like it's aligned with their mission.

NIKE in the global Market

NIKE in the global Market Nowadays NIKE and Adidas are biggest competitors of each other and customers have their own preferences. To see   the global revenues there is an image of the revenues from the biggest competitors in 2016.  As you can see Nike has from the beginning a higher revenue stream than the other competitors, but nowadays NIKE and Adidas are more competitive in the business. The '"fight" for sponshorships is bigger than ever and both brands want to be the best. It is also fun to see the different between NIKE and Adidas if you see the sponsorships with football players. Below this line there is a video with different players and the two brands. Are there any suprises? I would also to know you why people choose for NIKE and not for Adidas. Is this because of the sport athletes marketing, the quality of products or your own choice.

How did Nike became so succesful- Sponsorships

Sponsorships To build an imperium and be the market leader like NIKE, the organization must have a good marketing department and strategy.   "No company in the world spends as much money on sports sponsorships as Nike”  (Isidore, 2015) The endorsement of NIKE is one of the key elements to build a brand like this. The organization has a lot of big sport athletes to promote the brand like: 1.        Cristiano Ronaldo ( See a commerial at the end) 2.        Lebron James 3.        Tiger Woods 4.        Serena Williams 5.        Michael Jordan Nike is using professional athletes and celebrities   to promote their   products. The influence from the athletes and celebrities could influence new customers. Especially really big fans of the athletes would like to have a product from their idol. Some athletes have even their own line like Lebron James. The revenues from the products is higher than the cost of the sponsorship and therefore the organization spends

NIKE: Just Do It , is a sentence that a lot of people know nowadays. When people here the sentence only one brand is coming op: NIKE. The brand is the market leader in their market, but how did the company become so successful and what do people think from the brand. In this blog, I will explain the beginning of Nike. The start of NIKE Phil Knight is the man who came up with the idea for the company. He was a very sportive man, but he didn’t like the American sport shoes. The shoes were painful during long runs and he wanted to create a brand with better quality of shoes. During his trip in Japan, he visited a factory and made a contract deal to deliver the shoes in America. The name of the brand wasn’t until 1971 NIKE. From 1964 until 1971 the brand operates under the name : Blue Ribbon sport. In the beginning it was hard for the organization to promote the shoes, but in 1960 ( five years after the first production) the organization revenues where over the 1 million dollars
